TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD #4

Journal #4
Chapters 10, 11, & 12
Perspective: Atticus

I am older then most parents. I'm nearly 50 while others are in their 30's-40's. When i get home from work I don't go out hunting or fishing like the other parents, I sit on my couch and read. This often embarrasses Jem and Scout but they don't know that i use to be the best hunter in the country. They kind of got an idea I was able to hunt when I killed that mad dog that was wondering adjacent my house. I shot it from a far distance with just one shot which amused Jem and Scout.
Miss. Dubose doesn’t like me very much. I guess its because I’m defending a nigger in a court case. Every time Jem and Scout walk past her house she always yells mean things. This really bothers Jem, and Scout. Mostly Jem though. I told him just to isolate himself from her because she is very old and sick, but one day Miss. Dubose yelled out, “Atticus is not any better than the niggers and trash he works for!” So when Jem and Scout were walking back from shopping Jem snatched the new baton he had bought for Scout went over to Miss. Dubose’s house and cut the tops of all her flowers, then broke Scouts brand new baton in half! Scout was so perplex. about it all.
Jem’s Birthday had just passed. He is now at the age of 12. He has been acting very different and not wanting to play with Scout anymore. He tells scout to start acting more like a girl, Scout came up to me and asked me if he had gotten a tape worm because his appetite is appalling, he’s very inconsistent, and moody. I just told Scout that she has to be patient with him, and give him some alone time. Scout of course was upset so she was looking forward to seeing Dill that summer, but one day she received a letter in the mail from Dill saying that his mother gotten re-married and he was going to go hunting with him, and build a boat with him so he was not going to Maycomb that summer. Also since I am now a member of the state legislature I am forced to travel to the state capital every day for two weeks. Cal noticed Scout was feeling very lonely and told Scout to come go into the kitchen whenever she was lonely and hangout with her.
The Sunday I was gone Cal decided to take Jem and Scout to a nigger church called First Purchase. The night before she bathed them, and made sure they were nice and clean. She also picked out nice outfits for them to wear. One lady named Lula was being very rude to Cal from bring white people to a black church, but everyone else was very friendly and nice.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD #3

Journal #3
Perspective-Jem
Chapters 8-9

This winter we have had 2 weeks of the coldest weather since 1885! Mrs.Radley died this winter. No one really saw much of her only when she was outside watering her plants. Scout and I figured Boo Radley killed her, but once Atticus got home he told us it was from a natural cause.
The other night Atticus and I woke up to a loud scream. It was Scout, she had thought the world was coming to an end but it was just snow. I have also never seen snow but i had a good idea what it looked like and what it was. Since it snowed in Maycomb Scout and I had no school!
After scout and i finished eating we decided to go outside and play with the snow and try to build a snowman. It was really fun. I also learned something new today. Miss.Maudie told me if you put flowers on your feet it keeps them warm.
It had gotten so cold this winter we had to keep the furnace going 24-7. One night Miss.Maudie's house had gotten light on fire! Dad and i had to get up early and get Scout out of the house. Wile waiting outside someone had draped a blanket over Scouts shoulders. She hadn't noticed it until i asked her where she got it from. We found it it was Boo Radley! Wow this winter has been very interesting so far.

Blog Entry #2 TKAM

Journal #2
Chapters 4-7
Perspective-Scout

The rest of my school days went by very slow, and boring. One day after I got out of school I was running home until I saw something shiny from the corner of my eye. It caught my attention so deeply that I paused, took a deep breath and went back to see what it was. Something around one of the big oak trees at Radley's lot caught my attention. It was some shiny tinfoil sticking out of a knothole. I stuck my hand in and pulled out two pieces of chewing gum. I quickly ran home then examined what I had just discovered. The gum looked fresh, I smelled it and it smelt good. Then I licked it and waited to see what would happen, when nothing happened I knew it wasn't poisonous so I stuck both pieces into my mouth. When Jem came home and caught me chewing the minty gum I had found he got very mad and made me spit it out.
Jem and I were becoming inpatient waiting for summer to come along. Once it did I was so excited to see Dill. Once Dill arrived Jem, Dill, and I played a lot of fun games together. One of the games was we roll one another inside an old tire. One day Dill asked me to marry him! He said that I'm the only girl he would ever love, but hes only 7 years old.

As the summer went on Jem and Dill became a lot closer. I felt like i didn't even fit in anymore so i started hanging out with one of my neighbors. Her name is Miss Maudie Atkinson. She is a great gardener, and cook.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
Christina Schaefer Blog post #1
Chapters 1-3
Perspective: Jem

Hello, my name is Jeremy Atticus Finch and I live in a very old town called Maycomb. I have a father named Atticus, he owns a farm called the Finch’s Landing. I also have a younger sister named Jean Louise but we all call her Scout. When I was about 13 years old I got my arm broken. Once it healed I was scared that I would never be able to play football again. I was also very self conscious about my arm. During the summer scout and I played a lot with a boy named Charles Backer Harris, his long name did not suit him so we called him Dill. Dill lived right next ton us at his Aunt Rachel’s house for the summer and should be coming back every summer from now on.
A week after dill left Maycomb, Scout and I started school. I was going onto 5th grade and it was Scout was starting 1st grade. As we walked to school I had to carefully explain to her that during school hours she was not to bother me, approach me, talk about my private life with anyone, follow me during recess, or embarrass me. At first she did not understand that we could only play at home not at school because school is much different then home, but then she understood after her teacher Miss. Caroline patted her on the wrist and made her stand in the corner of the class until noon.
Scout is a very smart girl. I’ve taught her a lot of things that kids in her grade don’t even know. Miss. Caroline thinks my father has taught her all her knowledge, but when my dad comes home from work he is so tired all he does is sit on the couch and read. Miss. Caroline has a new way of teaching so she wants me to stop teaching Scout and let her do it her way.
In Scout’s class there’s a Cunningham boy. His name is William. ON the 1st day of school he did not have any lunch, or any money to buy lunch so I invited him over for some lunch that Calpurnia had made for us. Overall it was a good 1st day at school.

NAME: Christina Schaefer DATE:
BOOK: The Notebook
AUTHOR: Nicholas Sparks PAGES: Finished
Number of pages: 65

Question: If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be? Why would you change it?

Response: If I were to change one thing about this book I would change how the book ended. When I was reading the last chapter I felt that the author wasn't adding as much detail as he was in all of the other chapters. The last chapter was the most boring and very dry. I thought the book was going to end a lot better. It was also disappointing because i read this whole book, and it had a horrible ending.

Question: What character do you like most in this book.

Response: My favorite character in this book is Allie. She is my favorite character because she is very brave, out going, and doesn't let anyone stand in her way. I love how she went back to Noah after all those years of not seeing him. She is a wonderful artist, and does whatever she wants whenever she wants.

Notebook blog 3

Christina Schaefer 2/12/10
Author: Nicholas Sparks Pages read: 70

Question: What do you think is the theme (author’s message) in this book?

Response: I think the author in the book is trying to say that no matter what your 1st love will never go away. I think he is trying to say that because Alli keeps on going back to Noah. Even after 14 years with out hearing from one another and thinking they were over each other, they really weren't. After Alli left Noah's house they were both crying because they will never see each other again.

Question: Do you think you would read another book by this author? Why or why not?
Response: I would read another book by this author, because i love the way he talks. He is very descriptive and when i start reading i don't ever want to put the book down until i know what happens. I love how i can see everything that is going on in the book in my head bright and clear. I can picture everything he is trying to say and can understand everything.

The Notebook- Post 1

NAME: Christina Schaefer DATE: 2/4/10
BOOK: The Notebook
AUTHOR: Nicholas Sparks PAGES: 1-72
TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK: 72

QUESTION 1: How did what you read today make you feel? Why?

RESPONSE 1: What I read today made me feel happy and sad at the same time. I was happy because the character in the book named Allie went back to visit her first love. The talked all night about everything that had happened between the fourteen years they had without seeing one another. They were laughing and having so much fun like the old days. What had made me sad was that Allie was engaged to a rich man named Lon. Allie and Noah both still loved each other so much, and it was sad that they weren’t together anymore. It was also sad because Noah was left alone when Allie is engaged to a man when she still loves Noah.

QUESTION 2: What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?

RESPONSE 2: I really like what Allie is doing in this book.I think that what she is doing is right, nut wrong at the same time, because she really loves Noah. Allie went to Noah’s house after 14 years when she saw his picture in the local newspaper for building his dream house. They both still loved each other and I think it was very smart for Allie to go to his house. She had a lot of courage and strength to go and show up at Noah’s house out of the blue even though she is engaged.
